St Ann records first murder of 2024
As murders continue to roll in merely nine days into the New Year, St Ann on Monday recorded their first since January 1.
It is reported that a man, suspected in another murder in the parish, was shot and killed along a roadway in parish capital, St Ann's Bay.
He has been identified as 36-year-old Duwayne Clarke, more commonly known as 'Zulu'.
Reports reaching The STAR are that Clarke was walking along a section of the road when a car drove up and two men alighted. They fired several shots, hitting Clarke multiple times.
He was rushed to the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital where several he was pronounced dead.
In 2023, 79 murders were reported in St Ann, which is 12 more than the 67 reported in 2022, a 17.9 per cent increase.
This was the second-highest increase in murder figures by parish, second only to Hanover, which recorded a 63.6 percent increase in murders, moving from 44 to 72.
There were 1393 murders in Jamaica in 2023.
