An 18-year-old labourer is staring down prison time after police say he allegedly pulled off a daring house break at a relative's home, making off with close to $1 million in cash in St Mary.

The accused is Dwayne Williams, a labourer of Sue River, Richmond, St Mary, who has been charged with House Breaking and Larceny following the incident on Friday, January 16.

Reports from the Port Maria police are that at about 8:30 a.m., Williams' relative securely locked her house before leaving the premises. However, upon her return, she was shocked to discover that the door was open.

Checks of the house revealed that a staggering JMD $829,000 and US$300 were missing. A report was immediately made to the police, and an investigation was launched.

Information gathered during the probe led investigators to Williams, who was later apprehended in St Andrew. When he was searched, police reportedly found JMD $741,490 and the full US$300 in his possession.

Following a question-and-answer session, Williams was arrested and subsequently charged.

His court date is being finalised.
