9-y-o boy fatally shot in Clarendon

January 27, 2024

A shooting in May Pen, Clarendon on Friday night has left a mother seriously injured, and her nine-year-old son dead.

The young boy has been identified as Shamar Walker, a resident of Church Street in May Pen.

It is reported that about 7:45p.m., a group of people were at shop operated by Walker's mother, when a man entered the shop. He was there for about 30 minutes before opening gunfire hitting the both mother and son.

They were rushed to hospital where Shamar was pronounced dead on arrival, and his mother admitted in serious condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police investigators are considering whether the attack stemmed from the woman filing a report regarding a robbery at her premises on Tuesday, January 23.

The incident has sent chills across the parish, and is a bitter state of déjà vu,  following the August 2021 gun murder of an eight-year-old boy, Xavier Phillips, who was shot and killed while watching a game of football near his home in Howells Content, York Town.

Investigations are ongoing.
