A resident of Zambia in Central Village, St Catherine, said he was shocked to learn that human remains were discovered in his community.

"Far as mi know, no one is missing from round here and things like this make di place look bad. People ago quick to say is man from the area kill and bury people, but mi nuh think suh because a many ways to get in Zambia and the place full a bush, so anyone can come in and do dem ting. Mi frighten when mi see police swarm di place dis morning (yesterday) and hear say dem find grave. Dis nuh look good at all," he said.

According to a report from the Corporate Communications Unit, about 8 a.m., lawmen assigned to the St Catherine South Police Division were alerted by a foul odour in the community. Upon investigation, they saw a shallow grave with human remains along with items of clothing. The scene was processed and the remains removed to the morgue for post-mortem.

As the police team made trips from the crime scene with digging tools, a small group of onlookers converged close by. All were tight-lipped about the discovery. A lawman on the scene told THE STAR that the St Catherine community is known to have had informal 'graveyards' within its space.

"This is not the first time that human remains were found in the community. The area has a lot of forest areas. Graveyards made by thugs they are," he said. The lawman also stated that forensic science will have to be done to determine the sex and identities of the victims.

In April 2022, residents discovered human remains spread across three properties in the same community. Some of the remains were wrapped in plastic. The remains were discovered after vultures and dogs were seen eating what appeared to be human flesh.
