St James man found with illegal firearm

The Mount Salem police in St James, and have taken a man into police custody after he was found with an illegal firearm on Friday. 

According to police reports, lawmen were on patrol in the vicinity of the Over River main road sometime after 2:00 a.m., when they heard loud explosions and went to investigate.

On their arrival at a section of the main road, a man was seen along the roadway with his right hand behind him. His actions arouse the suspicion of the police who approached and apprehended him.

He was searched and a chrome Springfield XD .40 pistol containing six .40 rounds of ammunition was found.

The man was arrested and transported to the station, where he is being questioned. Investigations are ongoing
