A St Catherine man, employed to the Transport Authority as a wrecker driver, has been accused of returning vehicles that were to be impounded, as well as illegally collecting money from the motorists as compensation for his actions.

The accused, Tajay Wallace, is charged with two counts of obtaining money by means of false pretence.

It is reported that between November and December 2023, Wallace was the driver of a wrecker assigned to the Transport Authority.

During that time, two vehicles were seized and placed on the wrecker to be impounded.

It is further reported, however, that during the journey he allegedly dropped off the vehicles and collected $42,000 from the motorists.

His employer learned of the fraudulent transaction and the police contacted. Investigation led to Wallace being arrested and charged.

When he appeared before the Parish Court on Tuesday, March 25, 2024 was selected as the date for a plea and case management of the case.

Presiding Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle told the clerk of courts that further investigation is required to bring closure in the matter. Wallace's bail as been extended as a result.
