An online store operator said there has been a surge in demand for special stones, which she said have been imported from South America, as customers are drawn to their perceived ability to fulfil wishes.

Dubbed the 'wish stones', Sashana Morgan said that they do not possess inherent spiritual powers; rather, their effectiveness is believed to stem from the energy of the individual who possesses them.

"It's very small, and all you have to do is walk around with it. It won't weigh down your bag. Rub the stone four time in your right hand every day and ensure that your vibe is positive, and just believe. This is about energy, so no one except you should touch it, and don't allow anyone to borrow it because, your energy and a next person's own may be the opposite," she said.

Morgan said that late last year, while vacationing in Peru, she came across an old man who was selling the stones.

"He told me that even though it is called a wish stone, it is not something that you literally take and make a wish on. It works off energy, and you know there are persons who would walk around with a lucky ring or chain; same with the stone. It has nothing to do with obeah or voodoo," Morgan said.

"It's just like when you go to church for prayer and you keep a positive mind that it will be answered, it's the same way you have to feel about the wish stone," she said.

Morgan said she initially had doubts about the awesome power of the stone but decided to try it.

"I had it for weeks and I was still doing my business, but I was still sceptical, so it didn't really work until I start believing in it," he said. That changed when, after approximately two years of negotiating with a bank without success, she recently got an email saying that the deal was approved.

"I went to the bank and collected what I should and came home happier than ever. I then gave one of the stones to my partner. He was waiting for months for a vehicle to be shipped, and then shortly after he got the stone, it came and mi say it can't be a coincidence. So mi start advertise them on my page, because I had purchased a bag of 10," she said.

Within a day of posting, Morgan said demand outweighed supply. She said the stones, that are sold for $5,000 each, have attracted persons from all walks of life. With dozens of pre-orders, Morgan claimed she had to contact the Peruvian man, who sent more bags of stones to her.

"I had a friend who was vacationing there, so I asked her to get them for me. He packed them and told her not to open the bags, as the stones worked off energy. I don't have hands to sell. From old to young, uptown and downtown, people buying them. The testimonials are coming in positive. Recently, a girl told me that after months of trying and getting turned down, she got a job. There are others who told me that it helped when buying Cash Pot, and so on," Morgan said.
