'Don't loud up the ting', illegal firearm holder allegedly told police

A St Catherine man, who was held with an illegal firearm in early march, allegedly asked cops to not "loud up the ting", when they asked for paperwork relating to the weapon. 

Kevin Bent, a 48-year-old businessman from Old Harbour Bay in St Catherine, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

It is reported that on March 1, the police carried out an operation along Darlington Drive in Old Harbour when a Honda CRV Sports Utility Vehicle driven by the accused was stopped.

During the search of a bag on the front passenger seat, a nine milli-metre pistol affixed with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition was discovered. 

When he was held the  accused allegedly told the police "don't loud up di ting. Not everyone know that mi have license gun."

He was escorted to his home to provide documentation for the weapon,where he revealed he was not a licensed firearm holder.

Bent is said to have told the police "do a ting and fi and mi gi yu a million dollar" his advance was refused. He was arrested and subsequently charged.

When the accused appeared before Senior Parish Court judge Desiree Alleyne, the police said that Bent was a major player in the "Gun for drug trade" between Haiti and Jamaica and that he was a flight-risk.

Attorney-at-Law Donahue Martin made a bail application,citing that Bent denies having a gun in his possession, he said to have suffer from diabetes and needs proper diet is not a flight-risk and lives within walking distance of the Old Harbour Bay police station. 

He was further remanded and is scheduled to appear in the Gun Court Division on April 9, 2024.
