St Catherine woman fined $100k for light theft

Phillis Gordon, a 40-year-old labourer from Spanish Town in St Catherine, was fined $100,000 or 90 days imprisonment after pleading guilty to illegal abstraction of electricity.

The judgement was passed by Senior Parish Court judge Desiree Alleyne when the matter was brought before the parish court on Tuesday. 

It is reported that on February 1, 2024, an operation carried out by the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) and the police force, lead to a visitation of the accused's home. 

During the visit, several types of saws and other equipment were observed illegal attached to the JPS' power source.

She was subsequently summoned for court.
