Man blames seizures for machete attacks

March 13, 2024

A Corporate Area man says recurring seizures led him to chop and injure seven people in his community.

"I didn't know what I was doing," the accused Jevan Campbell explained. He is before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court to answer to three counts of unlawful wounding and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. His guilty plea was not accepted by Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque as she indicated her preference to have the matter heard before another judge.

Campbell, according to allegations, was armed with a machete and walked around his community chopping and slapping residents with the weapon. The accused added that while in custody, he experienced another seizure and attacked other inmates.

"I was in the middle of a seizure and when I woke up, me cell mate was telling me what happened," he shared with the court.

He was remanded in custody until April 17 when the matter is to be heard.
