A former court administrator is to face trial in the next five months, following allegations that she stole more than $700,000 from a government agency.

The accused, Janet Morgan-Rodgers, was employed to the Civil Division of the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in the capacity as a court administrator. However in 2019, she was acting in the post as a accounting technician. Prosecutors contend that Morgan-Rodgers received a cheque valued at $601,080, which she signed for. In August 2019, a new accounting technician was employed and Morgan-Rodgers was expected to hand over the sums. However, it is alleged that those efforts have proven futile.

A special audit of the agency was conducted, focusing on the time period that the accused was acting in the accounting post. The audit revealed that an additional sum of more than was $50,000 was unaccounted for. It is alleged that Morgan-Rodgers has a total sum of $705,020 unaccounted for at the agency.

She pleaded not guilty to one count of larceny as a servant before Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell on Monday. The matter is expected to proceed to trial on September 10 and 11 and a subpoena was issued for the Crown's witnesses. Morgan-Rodgers was made the subject of a fingerprint order and is expected to return to court on the aforementioned date.
