Man charged with assaulting partner during argument

May 09, 2024

A subpoena was issued on Wednesday afternoon to facilitate the attendance of a Corporate Area woman, who accused her partner of four years of wounding her.

The matter was mentioned for the first time before Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell, who was shocked that the complainant did not attend court.

"This is the first mention date and the complainant is not here? How comes? Isn't she required to be here?" the senior jurist quizzed. Allegations shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court state that on April 4, the complainant and her boyfriend, Warren Escofferey, got into an argument. The argument became physical and Escofferey allegedly slapped the complainant in her face, causing her to fall to the ground. While on the ground, it is alleged that the accused kicked the complainant all over her body then choked her, threatening to kill her.

He did not enter a plea to unlawful wounding nor did Judge Burrell make an order for his fingerprints to be taken.

Escofferey is to return to court on June 19, when the matter is set for mention.
