Woman allegedly uses fake name in passport application

June 12, 2024

Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell urged investigators attached to the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) to complete their case file against a Corporate Area woman, whom she believes is not taking the court processes seriously.

Burrell was peeved after seeing pictures that substantiated the Crown's case that the accused, Carmen Stewart, submitted a passport application in another name.

"This woman needs to be prosecuted for taking the government for an idiot. Look at the pictures. You have a mole on the left side of your face, you have a cleft chin. When you look at the photographs, even the set of the lady's mouth, even the shape of her ears, have the same hairline. You should be prosecuted at the full extent of the law, if for anything else, for wasting the prosecution's time," the senior jurist scolded.

Stewart has been attending the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court since 2022, where she is charged with obtaining passport by forged documents and making a false declaration. She has yet to enter a plea.

"Why is it that she is dragging out the case? Does she want to pay the maximum fine?" the judge asked.

The matter was adjourned until July 11, for the investigator to obtain an additional statement from the person at PICA who operates the facial recognition software. Stewart is expected to return to court then.
