Man charged with stealing ackee

A Corporate Area man is expected to stand trial later this year, following allegations that he stole pods of ackee from his neighbour's house.

Daniel Dixon, who is charged with praedial larceny, maintained his innocence when he made his first appearance in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

"Did you see how many pods of ackee he took from your house Madam?" Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell probed.

"No, Your Honour. I saw him with the stick over in the yard. He always picking off the ackee," the complainant responded.

However, Dixon maintained that he did not begin picking the ackees and that this was just the complainant's way of getting revenge on him.

"The property is unoccupied and I was the caretaker of the property and there was a little disagreement between me and her and this is just her way of getting back at me," Dixon declared, following his not-guilty plea.

Burrell suggested that the matter be settled at mediation. However, the complainant indicated that she was not interested in talking about the matter with Dixon.

"I want to go to trial," the complainant told the judge. Dixon was then made the subject of a fingerprint order and is to return to court on November 8 when the trial is expected to begin.
