What should have been a joyous birthday celebration for a Corporate Area woman, quickly turned into a brawl between herself and her child's father.

It was shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday that on June 27, the complainant visited her child's father, Ryan Anderson, and asked him for money for her birthday.

"Me say to her say me soon give her and she fi just wait because the day nuh done yet," Anderson related. He said that his response triggered a verbal altercation between the couple.

"Me nuh know, enuh, but her head get hot. Me say to her say 'Remember say on my birthday yuh never give me nothing and pon Father's Day, me nuh get nothing either'," the father of one said. He has a three-month-old baby with the complainant.

Anderson said that he walked away from the complainant and went to his room to pack up his clothes and other personal belongings, when he felt a punch to his face.

"Deh so we start wrestle and things a drop down and turn over and something Your Honour," he said.

Prosecutors noted that the complainant was punched in the face and a machete was used to slap her all over her body. The complainant's 14-year-old son tried to intervene and also sustained injuries from the melee.

"You guys need help," Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell surmised.

Anderson and the complainant were referred to the probation services and are to receive parental counselling.

The matter was adjourned for mention on November 6.
