Good Samaritan injured during alleged robbery attempt
A bodybuilder reportedly had to spend three days in hospital nursing injuries he received when he tried to foil an alleged robbery attempt in downtown Kingston earlier this year.
The disclosure was made in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday, when the accused, Andre Robinson, made his appearance. In May, Robinson was charged by investigators attached to the Kingston Central Police Division with unlawful wounding, assault with intent to rob and wounding with intent.
It is alleged that on April 28, the female complainant, who is a policewoman and was off-duty on the day, was conducting business in West Parade, when Robinson approached her, held her hand and demanded that she hand over her cell phone. A tussle ensued as the complainant refused Robinson's demand. During the tussle, Robinson, who is a 34-year-old vendor, used a knife to inflict a wound to the policewoman's hand. The bodybuilder saw the scuffle and intervened, when he was allegedly stabbed in the abdomen by Robinson with the knife. The bodybuilder shared that he received 60 stitches when he was hospitalised.
Parish Judge Leighton Morris had the matter adjourned until October 9 for Robinson to settle his legal representation and for prosecutors to determine the jurisdiction of the matter. Robinson was remanded in custody until then.
