A motorcyclist, 26, has lost his life in a vehicle crash in Hanover after he tried to avoid a pothole and collided with a truck.

A police report has revealed that the man, whose identity is yet to be released, was travelling in the opposite direction of the Hino truck driver along the Johnson Town main road.

The biker reportedly swerved to avoid the pothole and collided with the right side of the truck's front according to the report.

Last month a woman in St James also died in a crash after her car drove through a pothole and the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Twenty road deaths have been recorded so far this month, a 50 percent decline when compared with the corresponding period last year.

Some 333 people have died in motor vehicle crashes so far this year, a 14 per cent dip year-on-year, police data show.
