Cox Street Bridge in St Mary closed due to damages from heavy rainfall
The National Works Agency (NWA) has announced the closure of the Cox Street Bridge in St Mary due to damages from persistent rainfall since the passing of Tropical Storm Raphael.
The agency says the bridge which was closed yesterday with immediate effect due to the the structure unsafe for motorists.
Their technical team is now conducting the necessary damage assessment, with a view to having the situation remedied in short order.
NWA advise that motorists travelling from the Annotto Bay direction, towards Cox Street, may travel via Stennett Street, before making a left turn on to Cox Street (in the vicinity of Courts Jamaica Limited).
Also those travelling from the Oracabessa direction towards Cox Street, may travel via Stennett Street, before making a right turn, on to Cox Street (in the vicinity of the St. Mary Municipal Corporation building).
Motorists are being urged to obey warning signs as failure to do so may have dire consequences to life and property.
