Elderly man fatally shot by police in Portmore

A senior citizen was shot and killed by the police in Portmore, St Catherine on Sunday during an alleged machete attack.

Dead is 68-year-old Robert Gayle of 16 Lincoln Road in Passage Fort in Portmore.

Reports are that about 2:45 p.m., the police went to Lincoln Road when they attacked by Gayle who was armed with a machete. 

The police took evasive action during which he was shot.

He was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe in the fatal shooting.
