Motorist charged in cop’s death
A 25-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following an incident on October 4, 2024 along St John's main road in St James.
The incident resulted in the death of Constable Linroy Codner. The accused has been identified as Dillon Reid, otherwise known as 'CJ' or 'Bulby' of the Blackshop district, also in St James. Reports from the Montego Bay police are that at 3 p.m., Codner was on duty when he was mowed down by Reid, who was driving a white Toyota Probox. Reid fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle in his community after the incident. Codner was assisted to hospital, where he received treatment for multiple brain injuries; he succumbed on October 20.
Reid turned himself in to the police a day after the incident with his attorney and was interviewed. A file was thereafter submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling. On February 21, it was recommended that he be charged. Reid was formally charged a week later, after he again surrendered to custody with his attorney.
Reid is scheduled to appear in the St James Parish court on March 12.
