Businesswoman arrested in alleged job scam
A Westmoreland businesswoman has been arrested and charged with fraudulent conversion and simple larceny following a series of incidents in her community between November 2020 and February 2022.
According to the Savanna-la-Mar police, Cynthia Williams, 59, of Cedar Walk, Petersfield, told a man that she could secure him an overseas work and travel opportunity for $400,000. The man made several payments to Williams, but after he had paid the full amount, she was unable to provide any update on the programme. When he requested a refund and visited her multiple times to collect his money, she reportedly took his cell phone and threatened to have him killed.
Williams was taken into custody after the man reported the matter to the police, and was subsequently charged. A court date is being finalised for her.
