Hotel staff charged with allegedly steal US$2,000 using duplicated room keys

January 19, 2026

Three hotel workers in Trelawny are facing a series of charges after they allegedly used duplicated room keys to steal US$2,000 from guests during the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

The accused have been identified as 25-year-old Anthony Binns of Lewis, St Ann; 29-year-old Alex Reid of Rose Hall, Montego Bay, St James; and 31-year-old Scillion Fuller of Linstead, St Catherine. They are charged with unlawful possession of hotel room keys, computer forgery, conspiracy to commit computer fraud, and simple larceny.

According to police reports, the alleged scheme took place between November 2025 and January 2026. During Hurricane Melissa, the men were allowed to remain on the hotel property and were issued key cards for their respective rooms. After the hurricane, they were instructed to return the keys. However, Reid reportedly failed to comply.

Investigators allege that Reid then collaborated with Binns and Fuller to duplicate the key card, which was later used to enter guest rooms and steal US$2,000 from unsuspecting visitors.

The Falmouth Police said a report was made, and all three men were subsequently apprehended and formally charged. Their court dates are being finalised.

Police continue to investigate to determine if other rooms were targeted and whether additional thefts occurred.
