SPORTING activities in Intercollegiate Sports for the 2015-16 season will get underway today with netball at the University of West Indies starting at 9:00 a.m and male football competition.
wholescale competition
Unlike in previous years there will not be a wholescale competition in all sports. According to first time General Secretary of Intercol, Laurence Garriques of the University of Technology, the new look executive decided to cut down on costs.
"We just came into office recently and because of taking over so late, we decided that it would have been too much on the various institutions and it was best just to have the netball rally and the first round of the Greg Garrell Knockout Football competition," he said.
Garriques thinks that this year competition will be competitive as usual.
"We expect close competition in all sporting disciplines and tomorrow's Netball Open Rally should give an indication of this as most of the country's top Netballers who compete at this summer World Cup in Australia along with former National Junior and senior players will be in action," said Garriques.
Defending Rally champion, G.C. Foster College, the University of West Indies, University of Technology and the Mico University College are all expected to have strong showings as all four teams will be well represented.

There will be three first round matches in Knockout football where the winners will advance to Monday's second Round.
