Better things to come in 2017 - McLeod

RJR National Sportsman of the Year runner-up, Olympic 110 metres hurdles champion Omar McLeod, said he was extremely happy to make his nation proud with his performances in Rio and the World Indoor Championships last year, and though expectations will be high for the 2017 World Championships, he is ready to make it an even better year.

"Expectations are high when you are competing like this. When you are number one in the world and you are winning medals, the expectancy raises and it's up to you to live up to that expectancy. But I live for challenges and I am ready, as I definitely envision a smooth and successful 2017," McLeod told STAR Sports.

The former Manchester High and Kingston College student will face strong competition from the likes of Cuba's Orlando Ortega, Dimitri Bascou of France, and the United States' Devon Allen, among others, in 2017.

The 2016 World Indoor champion knows fans will be expecting him to deliver gold again at the World Championship, but he lives for these tests and is ready to produce gold in London.

"I had a great year," the Olympic sprint hurdles champion said at last Friday's awards ceremony at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

"Winning the World Indoors and becoming the first Jamaican to win gold was great, so it was overall a great year. I was so happy to make myself and my country proud, and I am looking forward to an even better 2017," he said.
