Dacres not worried by threat of terror in Britain

National discus record holder Fedrick Dacres said he is unfazed by the threat of terror attacks while in London at August's International Athletics Association Federation World Championships.

Britain has been on terror watch after last week's suicide bombing at a concert at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England, and a previous attack in the vicinity of the Palace of Westminster during a sitting of Parliament London in March.

However, Dacres said this does not change his feelings about being in London, should he be named in the national squad for the championships.

"I hadn't given it much thought but I'm not really afraid," he said. "We can die at any time, so if it's just my time, I can do nothing," he said.

HEIGHTENED SECURITY

Meanwhile, Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association president, Dr Warren Blake, said he expects heightened security in London ahead of the games and at the athletes camp, though concerns still exist regarding athletes who may want to tour the city and make use of its amenities.

Dacres, however, said he is not one to leave the camp to do much when travelling for games overseas, maintaining that he will not let the thoughts of terror attacks enter his head should he find himself in London in August.

"I'm not really a clubber or concert person and, strangely, I don't really do any activities outside of meets when I travel, but I'll try not to let it be that much of a deterrent on the trip," he said.
