Whyte, Clayton set sights on CAC glory

If they execute like they did yesterday, Rhonda Whyte and Rushell Clayton believe that that they can finish first and second in the women’s 400 metres hurdles final scheduled for tomorrow at 8:55 p.m.

The pair won their respective heats comfortably yesterday out of unfavourable lanes and their race executions have left them brimming with confidence.

Clayton, running out of lane eight, registered 55.45 seconds to win heat one.

“I felt pretty good especially because it is my first race running from lane eight all season and I knew had to get out in order to get the win,” Clayton said after the race.

“I think I should be able to medal and it would be great if me and my teammate get can finish on top. I am aiming for the Gold and I am feeling pretty confident because I did exactly what my coach wanted me to do from my point of view.”

Whyte, who ran from lane one to win in 55.77 seconds, was also pleased with her effort.

“I am pleased with that race because running from behind is not always easy and I did what I wanted to do which was to make the final,” Whyte said. “We are aiming for  one-two but let’s see what happens on the day because it is going to be a different day.”

Clayton is also hoping to erase her personal best time of 55.07.

“The plan is to get a PB and I believe I can do so if I execute the way I did today,” she said. “I am going to talk to my coach for him to advise me on what I can do differently but from my point of view I felt as though I executed well.”
