The Jamaica Football Federation’s National Under-13 Football Competition final, set for April 6, will see a repeat of last year’s final where Mt Pleasant FA got the better of MoBay City FC. However, despite Mt Pleasant being the favourite, MoBay is looking to have their revenge this season.

Braxton Richards’ brace and a goal each from Terome Morgan and Demar Peterkin, saw MoBay register a 4-0 win over Stars Academy from Manchester.

Leacroft Lettman, coach of MoBay, told WESTERN STAR that after seeing both western teams dumped from the nation’s top-flight league, MoBay City FC had a point to prove, showing that football is very much alive in the region.

“Football doesn’t start from the top, it starts with the youth. The next five years, they will be the ones representing both in daCosta Cup and rebuilding the status of football in the west,” Lettman said. “The talent is always here, but it’s how to harness it and how to get them together. This team, for the past four years that we have entered, is one of the better teams.”

Lettman noted that with their experience and confidence, they won’t be haunted by the mistakes of last season.

Strong unit

“We are a strong unit also. We fell short last season because of exposure; our boys never had practice games. On Saturdays we would just turn up and play matches, so it wasn’t as serious as this year ...

“The senior players, some of whom are in their last year, are really pulling their weight and we really want this to be a historic one for the west,” Lettman said.

He said that Saturday’s game was treated like any other.

“I think the boys showed character, composure, and experience throughout. From the get-go, we were on top of the game. Looking ahead to the finals, I think the boys really believe that they can get over the hurdle this time around,” he added.
