‘Weekend, for sure’ - JFF delays naming of new Reggae Girlz head coach

J amaica Football Federation (JFF) general secretary Dalton Wint says a new head coach of the national senior women’s team would be announced later this week.

The Reggae Girlz head coaching job became vacant recently after the contract of previous coach Hue Menzies was not renewed by the JFF and his assistant, Lorne Donaldson, then became the front-runner for the position.

Menzies and Donaldson led the Reggae Girlz to a historic qualification for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France in June.

JFF president Michael Ricketts announced last Friday that the new coach would have been named on Tuesday, but that has failed to materialise.

Wint told STAR Sports that the JFF has not concluded the negotiations with the new coach and it has decided to push back the announcement.

“I won’t disclose where that person will be from, if it is either local or overseas, but it is possible that it can come from either side,” Wint said.

Wint said that this coach will immediately step in to lead the Reggae Girlz in the final of round of the Concacaf Women’s Olympic qualifying in the United States next month.

“The discussions have been done and we are fairly pleased with the how these interviews turned out,” he said. “So we are just putting a few things together before we make the announcement.

Donaldson was reinstated yesterday as head coach of the national under-20 women’s team, with former national striker Tashawna Vincent selected to serve as his assistant. Hubert Busby was named as head coach of the girls Under-17s team.
