Boys’ Town set to receive compensation for Nicholson

Former Boys’ Town head coach Andrew Price said the club could receive its training compensation package from Belgian outfit Sporting Charleroi by the end of this month.

This, following acquisition of former Boys’ Town forward Shamar Nicholson by the Belgian club.

Nicholson, who made his debut for the Reggae Boyz in 2017, came up through the ranks at Boys’ Town and made the move to Slovenian club NK Domzale on a free transfer two years ago.

The 22-year-old Nicholson made 47 appearances for NK Domzale, scoring 18 goals, before he was sold to Sporting Charleroi for a fee of €1.5 million in August.

Price, who was a mentor for Nicholas during his early years at the southern St Andrew club, said they have submitted the relevant documents to FIFA and they are now hoping that they will receive the funds in short order.

“We have not seen the money as yet, but we have sent in the application and so we are just awaiting a resolution with the club and FIFA,” said Price.

“They (FIFA) will report back and let us know how much the club will receive and this is based on the amount of the years and where the player is as an international. I think that before the end of the year, we should be able to get a feedback from FIFA.”

Compensation package

A compensation package is due to Boys’ Town, the club that trained the player from age 12 to 21.

The veteran coach added that like most of the other clubs in the Jamaica, Boys’ Town are desperately in need of the money, which will be used to offset some of the cost associated with playing in the KSAFA Super League competition, which is scheduled to begin next month.

“Every club in Jamaica need money no matter if you play Super League or in the Premier League and Boys’ Town is no different. This money is well needed to help the club going forward,” said Price.
