JFF seeks big friendly for Boyz

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) general secretary Dalton Wint says discussions are now under way with a number of top rated international teams to secure a high calibre friendly international match for the Reggae Boyz for the next FIFA international break between March 23 and 30.

Wint told STAR Sports that it is important for the JFF to have the Reggae Boyz playing against top qualify opponents as they look to maintain their number four spot in Concacaf.

"The first order of business is that we want to have some practice games at the first window in the March," Wint said.

"We want to have some good games against quality opponents, so we are doing some very serious planning. As a matter of fact, if you notice, we went to Japan and that was a part of the plan because we had discussions down there. We want to have the team playing consistently, so we want to have quality games with quality opponents."

Jamaica are ranked 48th in the world and fourth in the Concacaf region behind Mexico (11th), the USA (22nd) and Costa Rica (46th).

Wint says it is important that the Jamaicans maintain their spot in Concacaf's top six ahead of the start of the World Cup qualifiers later this year.

"We are fourth in Concacaf now, so it is very important that we stay in the top six in Concacaf because if you are not in top six, then you will fall into the 29 teams playing for a quarter-final spot," he said. So we want to be in the six playing for the three and half spots."
