All eyes on Tokyo for James-Rose

Quarter-miler Tiffany James-Rose says she has set her sights on securing an individual spot on the country's team to this year's Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, from July 24 to August 9.

The former Papine High School standout, who is a member of the Cameron Blazers Track Club, told STAR Sports that she has been working hard in training.

"My training has been going good so far and I am just doing my best and working hard and I hope the results will come," James-Rose said. "My expectation is really to do better than last year, so my main goal is to run a personal best and I know if I run a personal best, it will take me to the Olympics. I don't have any times in mind and I just want to run as fast as I can go this year."

Secured silver and bronze

James-Rose, who will celebrate her 23rd birthday on January 31, was a member of Jamaica's teams that secured silver and bronze in the mixed relay and 4x400m relays, respectively, at the World Athletics Championship in Doha, Qatar, last September and October.

She says that there are a number of good quarter-milers in the country, but once she focuses, she will be in the mix for an individual spot on Jamaica's team.

"I went to the World Championships last year and I only made it for the relays," she said. "Now I am hoping and I am working to see if I can get an individual spot for the 400m this time around.

"I know that it is not easy, but I believe in myself and I am as good as everyone out there, so I know I can do it. It is just for me to work hard, stay focused, believe in myself and what I am doing."

James-Rose, a former IAAF World Under-20 400m champion, has a personal best time of 51.32 seconds over the distance.
