Looking on is Peter Hibbert, the former Camperdown High sprinter, who will be this year’s honouree.

Yohan Blake, the 2011 World 100 metres champion, will open his 2020 season at this year's 16th staging of the Camperdown Classic. The meet is set for February 8 at the National Stadium.

Blake, who is now conditioned by Gregory Little, is expected to run in the men's invitational 400m along with 2014 Commonwealth Games 100m champion Kemar Bailey-Cole. Former double World Junior 100m champion Dexter Lee is also confirmed to compete at the meet.

Chairman of the Camperdown Classic, Camille Allen, confirmed Blake's participation at yesterday's meet launch at the Spanish Court hotel in New Kingston.

"Yohan has in the past opened his season at this meet and so we are happy to be having him along with the other senior athletes," Allen said.

"I am very excited about this and I think that we are going to have a very wonderful meet this year," she added.

GraceKennedy Limited will be the title sponsors for the third consecutive year.

Allen also noted that more than 2,000 athletes have already been confirmed for this year's staging of the meet.

The events to be contested are the 100m in all classes; the 400m for senior athletes and 800m and 1500m for Classes One, Two and Three. Also on the track programme are the 400m hurdles for Classes One and Two and seniors athletes, a special 200m invitational for Class Two boys and the 4x100m relays for all classes. The field events are the high and long jumps for all classes and seniors.

A contingent of athletes from the Cayman Islands are scheduled to compete at the meet as well as two groups of athletes from the United States.

Former Camperdown sprinter Peter Hibbert will be this year's honouree. Entry fee for the event is $500. There will be a discounted entrance fee of $200 for Camperdown students.
