The annual general meeting (AGM) of Netball Jamaica (NJ) is now set for February 8 at the Jamaica Olympic Association office in Kingston, this after it was postponed twice over the past few months due to the unavailability of the audited financial report.

However, STAR Sports was reliably informed yesterday that the audited financial report is ready and the AGM will go ahead on February 8. Tricia Robinson, who is the current first vice-president of the organisation, is expected to take over the reins as president of the association from Dr Paula Daley-Morris, who will not be seeking re-election.

Become eligible

NJ's constitution stipulates that in order for one to become eligible to run for the post of president, he or she must have been a board member for two years. Robinson is among four board members who are qualified to seek the presidency with the others being Wayne Shaw, Janet Johnson, and Leoni Phinn. However, all three candidates have indicated that they will be not contesting the election, which leaves Robinson as the only contender for the post.

With Daley-Morris as president, the Sunshine Girls won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, in 2018. However, the Sunshine Girls performed poorly at last year's Netball World Cup in Liverpool, England, where they finished a disappointing fifth in the championships. In fact, the Sunshine Girls missed the semi-finals for the first time in 24 years.
