Ristananna Tracey, the 2017 World Championships 400m hurdles bronze medallist, says she is slowly getting back to her best as she continues her recovery from the Achilles tendon injury that halted her 2019 season.

The 27-year-old Tracey, who missed last year's World Championships in Doha because of the injury, told STAR Sports that she has been managing the injury and has been moving well in training this season.

"Because of the below-par season that I had in 2019, my main focus this season is to come out and to make each run better," said Tracey. "I am satisfied with the level of work that I have put out so far but I am still having an Achilles issue," she said.

The former Edwin Allen High School standout, who has a personal best time of 53.74 seconds in the 400m hurdles, clocked 53.97 to win the women's 400m at the Camperdown Classic last Saturday at the National Stadium.

Adjusting well

Tracey, who is now conditioned by coach Okeil Stewart at the UWI Pelicans Track Club, added that she is happy with the progress that she had made since joining the Mona-based camp in September last year.

"I am pleased with things, and my main aim heading into this Olympic season is to definitely stay healthy and make the team. Then anything else can happen," Tracey said.

"I must say that I am adjusting well with him (Stewart) because he is an understanding person and so on days that I can't really train when my Achilles is hurting, and stuff, he knows what to substitute for the work that I am missing out on track," she said.

Also at the Pelicans Track Club are last year's World Athletics Championships 400m hurdles bronze medallist Rushell Clayton and 2017 400m hurdles World Championships semi-finalist Jaheel Hyde.

Tracey is delighted to be training with Clayton because they help to push each other to do their best.

"It is added motivation for everyone in our environment because I must say she is very determined and she trains very hard," said Tracey.
