With his last ISSA/GreceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships fast approaching, Kingston College athletics team captain, Shantamoi Brown, is seriously thinking about life after high school.

But it is a thought process that the 400m hurdler doesn’t expect to last too long as a system at his school is equipped to ensure that he and his teammates are prepared to take up athletics scholarships.

“It is my objective to go abroad on a scholarship. When I came here in first form, I was told that KC is not a sports school, it is an academic school, and that means academics come before sports. A lot of the guys on the team, many of us have been receiving letters from scouts, and we are prepared to take up those schools,” said the upper sixth-form student. “People on the management staff ensure that we get the necessary SAT scores that we need, and so when we go to Championships, we will be doing our best for the scouts to see us also.”

Brown was disqualified in the final of the Class One Boys’ 400m hurdles last year. He has returned this season in fine form, producing a season best performance of 52.74 at the Youngster Goldsmith Classics on February 1.

“I definitely want to go out as a champion, but the aim is to ensure that I score points and contribute to my team retaining the trophy,” Brown said.
