Craig Butler, the guardian and agent of Jamaica’s and Bayer Leverkusen’s winger Leon Bailey says the player is doing all that he can to ensure that he protects himself from contracting the deadly coronavirus in Germany.

The virus has been spreading rapidly in the Germany with more than 1500 confirmed cases recorded up to yesterday. The Government of Jamaica, on Tuesday, added Germany to the list of countries on which it has imposed travel restrictions.

Butler told STAR Sports that they are aware of the situation in Germany and they monitoring all aspect of it.

“We are concerned about the virus and we are taking all precautions to protect members of the family and also the other players that we have in Europe,” said Butler.

“Leon is doing his job and he continues to do his work and so he is focused on what he needs to do. I understand the travel ban and I understand the need to protect our nationals,” he said.

The 22-year-old Bailey, who has scored five goals for his club this season, is among 30 players from the Butler-led Phoenix Academy that are now plying their trade across Europe.

“I am in Jamaica now and he is in Europe and he is going to be isolated with family because he has a baby on the way and so we are concerned, but at the same time Jamaica will rise above the challenges,” Butler said.

“The reality of it is that he is doing his best because he has always been a strong kid mentally and so he will be fine. He is not feeling down by the travel ban because the ban is not indefinite,” he said.

“The leagues in Germany have not been suspended and so they are playing currently to empty stadiums because they have banned, I think crowds of one thousand people or more,” Butler noted.
