Eroy set to slam overnight field

June 25, 2021

EROY finally gets a field he can dominate, a return to overnight allowance company, who he beat by 10 lengths in February, clocking 1:18.3 at six and a half furlongs.

Reporting with 126lb in Monday's Awesome Power Trophy at seven and a half should hold no terrors for United States-bred EROY, whose main rivals in the nine-horse field are no more than five pounds lighter, killing their chances against the out-of-class runner.

After slamming CHACE THE GREAT by 10 lengths, EROY faced a mixture of graded stakes and open allowance horses in the Saint Cecelia Cup on May 15. He had no luck in running, slowly into stride and stumbling shortly after. Nevertheless, he raced sixth up to the furlong pole in the six-and-a-half furlong event won by NIPSTER, who mowed down TREVOR'S CHOICE.

Returning in the Lady Geeta three months ago, EROY was clearly second-best behind a mean FATHER PATRICK, who ripped splits of 22.4, 34.2, 45.4 and 58.3 en route to clocking 1:13.0 for six furlongs. FATHER PATRICK returned outside his comfort zone last Saturday, attempting an all-the-way run at seven furlongs, before going down by a length to upsetter EAGLE ONE and his stablemate, KING ARTHUR.

Pace will be the determinant with SPARKLE DIAMOND being the only horse in the event capable of keeping EROY honest. Making his third start out of Anthony Nunes' barn, the once highly thought of American continues to give away his chances at the start, resulting in him being floored by DEEP BLUE SEA at five furlongs round on last.

EROY had easily circled DEEP BLUE SEA when chasing home FATHER PATRICK in the Lady Geeta, staying on up the lane for a respectable second-place finish. He continues to show good dash in the mornings and should be fighting fit down in class.

ROHAN KABIR and DEJAE's BOY are both reporting off victories in million-dollar claiming races. However, the quality of the opposition they beat is no match for EROY's last outing behind FATHER PATRICK.
