‘This is a massive step’ - JFFs’ Wint beams at spectators’ presence for Reggae Girlz World Cup qualifier

GENERAL SECRETARY of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Dalton Wint, says the Government's approval of 2,500 spectators to attend the Reggae Girlz Concacaf World Cup first qualifier against Bermuda at the National Stadium next Thursday is a step in the right direction.

Wint told STAR Sports that as part of the approval that they have received from the Government only fully vaccinated spectators will be allowed inside the National Stadium for the game.

"This is a massive step for us because we need the support of the team to qualify," said Wint.

"It is something that is part of what is being planned and so it helps with the financial situation of the JFF and it also helps with the motivation of the players on the field," he said.

Wint underscored that the JFF is delighted because the Reggae Girlz need the support of the fans inside the National Stadium to cheer them on during these matches.

"We are extremely happy about this because we had a situation with the Boyz where we weren't allowed to have spectators for most of their games," he said.

"It has started out well with the girls as they are recent World Cup qualifiers and so it gives them the opportunity to play in front of spectators inside the National Stadium," Wint said.

In their Group C World Cup qualifiers, the Reggae Girlz will also play against the Dominican Republic, Grenada and Cayman Islands.

Wint pointed out that all the teams in the group have been improving over the years and therefore they will not be taking their opponents lightly.

"Bermuda has been performing fairly well and they will provide stiff competition for our Girlz and so we have to prepare well for them," Wint said.

"The other teams have been doing the same and so we have to be at our best in these matches to ensure that we pick up all three points and move on to the next phase of the competition," he said.

Wint noted that tickets for the event will go on sale this weekend.
