Arnett Gardens continued their impressive start to the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season with a 2-0 win over arch-rivals Waterhouse at the Anthony Spaulding Complex yesterday and coach Paul 'Tegat' Davis assessed that his youthful players still need to improve.

Arnett played quality football throughout and got a goal in each half from Fabian Reid and Rushike Kelson and Davis believes his players have room for advancement.

"It wasn't the best game in terms of what we were looking for but once the game ends 1-0 or 2-0 that is the best game, but we have some little things we need to correct as we go forward.

"We are just taking each game as it comes. It can be better but with these young players we have injected into the game, we can only get better," Davis said.

In an equally contested first half, both teams traded good attacks and had good opportunities to open the scoring, however, it was Fabian Reid who cut inside his marker and fired home three minutes before the break to separate the teams.

The intense battle continued into the second half and Arnett added a second midway when Kelson latched on to a delightful through ball from Romeo Guthrie and slotted under goalkeeper Michael Panton in the 71st minute.

"Waterhouse ganged the middle and we told them to use the flanks but they kept going through the middle and Waterhouse kept countering us. So the half-time talk was to get back to the wings and at times try the middle and see if we can get a goal from that," Davis added.

After their second defeat in three games, Waterhouse coach Marcel Gayle said there are things to correct.

"The result wasn't good, but I thought we had a good performance but we lapsed in concentration on both goals. We could have gotten a point but such is the game. We have won one and lost two but we know where we went wrong today and we will correct it going forward," he said.
