The Barbican Mini Turf will come alive this Saturday with the staging of the first Locker Room/Game of Life All Ps Knockout youth competition.

Eight of the top Corporate Area primary schools and eight of the best preparatory schools will square off to be crowned champions of the inaugural event.

Jamaica's Game of Life CEO, Shamal Thomas, contends that the new thrust of the organisation is to equip young players with the tools to succeed in a professional environment.

He noted that exposing youngsters to the various aspects of engaging the media is crucial to the development of the modern player and they want to start allowing young players a taste of this media experience at an early stage.

"The intention is to give the youngsters exposure, especially where media is concerned.

"The kids will get an opportunity to get exposed to that side of the game early in their development.

"So we are trying to change the mindset of the players, and we are putting ourselves in a position to develop as many players as possible at that level by putting them on a platform and putting them in front of people," Thomas said.

The project is one of many Game of Life Foundation will be unleashing this year, as they have several others to be executed.

"We want stakeholders to pay more attention to youth football. It would pay greater dividends when the players get early exposure to other aspects of the game.

"We will have more quality and talented players playing at the youth level through to the senior level because of this exposure," Thomas said.

Meanwhile, spots in the tournament are vacant as some preparatory schools pulled out for various reasons.

The organisers have extended invitations to fill the vacancies; however, these spaces will go to primary schools should the responses from prep schools are not received in time. St Hugh's and Lannaman's are the only remaining prep schools.

The nine vs nine competition will be played on a knockout basis, with the winners advancing until the champions are decided.
