Mile Gully coach Johnoy Chambers says his team is still in the running for a semi-final spot despite a damaging 4-0 loss to Cavalier in the Jamaica Women's Premier League (JWPL) last Saturday.

Mile Gully failed to take advantage of Vere's absence at the weekend with Rena Gordon hitting a hat trick to lead Cavalier to victory at the Mile Gully Community Centre. Mile Gully sit third in Zone B on 15 points, three less than Vere in second, and a win on Saturday would have put them level with their main rivals for a semifinal spot.

However, coach Chambers remains positive.

"We lost badly but there are a lot of lessons to learn. Sometimes you learn a lot more from a defeat than a victory.

"And we have learned a lot of lessons (this season) and it is playing dividends because we are now able to compete with all the teams in the competition," he stated.

Meanwhile, Cavalier, with 30 points, moved 12 points clear at the top of the table, and coach Everdean Scarlett said they are using the games to fine-tune for the business end of the season.

"It is good motivation for my team because we are looking to be champions this season.

"So as we go along and play these teams we will use them as stepping stones to what we want to achieve," he said.

Gordon put Cavalier ahead in the 20th minute before adding a second three minutes later. Takielia Griffiths' own goal in the 72 minute put Cavalier 3-0 up before Gordon sealed the win in added time.

Over in Group A, the league's leading scorer, Shaniel Buckley, scored 11 times in Fraziers Whip 15-0 win over Rangers, to take her tally to 35 for the season.

Natoya Atkinson also scored twice while Destiny Powell and Latoya Duhaney got one each.

Olympic Gardens also stopped Springers 4-0 on a brace from Carlletia Savizon. Tatyana Polack was also among the scorers while Velecia Weir scored an own goal.

Fraziers Whip lead Zone A with maximum 33 points, followed by Olympic Gardens with 18 and Springers and Baptiste on 10 each.

The game between Royal Lakes and Real MoBay at Wespow Park was not played after Royal Lakes failed to show.
