Anderson out for rest of season

There will not be a return to the World Athletic Championships this year for defending 100 metres hurdles silver medallist Britany Anderson as her 2023 season has ended prematurely.

Anderson, 22, confirmed on Thursday that she was sitting out the rest of the season because of an injury to her knee. According to Radio Jamaica Sports, which first reported the news on Wednesday, the injury is understood to be a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

In a social media post yesterday, Anderson said that her prognosis is positive and that she is expected to make a full recovery and is ready to conquer the challenge that lies ahead of her.

"These past few weeks have been personally challenging for me as I've had to deal with a significant injury to my knee. Unfortunately, I will be sitting out this season, just to make sure I get the best recovery possible," Anderson said.

"The good news is that I will make a full recovery. The prognosis from my medical team is nothing short of 100 per cent positive. I am working very hard to make that a reality over the coming weeks. I am truly diving into this process, learning a huge amount along the way, and am thankful for the support I have received from all corners."

Anderson had yet to open her outdoor season after completing four 60 metres hurdles races during her short indoor campaign. Her last race was in February at the ISTAF Indoor meet in Berlin. Anderson said that the ordeal has reinvigorated her love for the sport and hopes that it will spark others to continue the pursuit of their goals despite the challenges.

"The peak will truly show you the limitlessness of your possibility," Anderson said

Anderson is coming off a season where she captured the first major medal of her career in her first World Championships appearance. She also broke the national record in that campaign, clocking 12.31 seconds in her World Championships semi-final.
