National 400 metres hurdler Shiann Salmon's commitment to finding a different race strategy for success has been her fuel this season as she hopes to make a return to the World Athletics Championships.

Salmon maintained her consistent form by winning the 400m hurdles at last Saturday's Racers Grand Prix in 55.10 seconds. She has not finished lower than third so far this season and seeing a need to alter her race strategy for the season, she has not put emphasis on times but on being consistently in the hunt for the top three.

"I have been looking at my race strategy and my stride patterns that I have been practising in training. I'm not looking at the times right now because sometimes times don't win places. So I am just aiming to finish in the best position that I can in every race that I run," Salmon said.

The opportunity to compete in front of her home fans one month before the National Championships is not just beneficial for her but competing at the meet for the first time.

"The last Racers Grand Prix I was in the stands because I was a high schooler. This is my first one and I am pleased with it," Salmon said.

Salmon's season's best so far has been at the Diamond League in Morocco on May 28 clocking 54.42.

And while she is chasing perfection in her craft, she is also cognisant of continuously improving to ensure she gets a ticket to the World Championships in a competitive field.

"I definitely think so. There is no such thing as perfect but I am working at my stride pattern and my coach and I have sat down, watched a whole lot of races and tried to figure out where I'm going wrong. And each race I'm just trying to improve that," Salmon said.
