National goalkeeper and captain Andre Blake and defender Damion Lowe are both relishing the chance to face Lionel Messi, with the latter's impending arrival to Major League Soccer (MLS), and both have described it as a massive movement for the league.

Messi, who completed his two-year stint with Paris Saint Germain, announced on Wednesday that he would be heading to Inter Miami after being linked to a return to Barcelona and a potential move to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal.

"I have made the decision that I am going to Miami. I still don't have it agreed upon 100 per cent, and a few things are needed, but well, we decided to continue my path there," Messi said in an interview on Wednesday.

Blake and Lowe both play with the Philadelphia Union and Blake, one of their longest-serving players, saw Messi's move to America as a monumental opportunity for the league.

"Having Messi come to the league is a big deal. It is a great opportunity for the league, for the players. For me personally, Messi is the greatest player in the world, so having him make this step right now, to come here is big time," Blake said.

Lowe who joined the Union from Inter Miami this season, said Messi will be able to shine a brighter light on the league as the sport in the United States continues to grow.

"This is momentous for the MLS. He's the best in the world, so this is an opportunity for the MLS to increase its fan base globally and attract more world-class faces to the league. It will bring even more spectators to the sport here, which is a win for everyone involved, and, of course, I look forward to the opportunity to face him again," Lowe said.

Blake and Lowe had the opportunity to play against Messi in September when the Reggae Boyz faced Argentina in head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson's first game in charge.
