In the heart of the Jamaica Premier League standings, Clarendon-based Vere United are making a significant impact.

Situated in Hayes, Vere currently sit sixth, with a string of impressive performances. They have three wins in their last five games, including a notable triumph against defending champions Mount Pleasant.

That win opened the eyes of football pundits as Vere United are gaining attention for their newfound style of play and growing confidence on the field.

On Thursday, Vere would have had a hat-trick of wins had it not been for an 82nd-minute equaliser by Harbour View. Vere showcased their confidence, resilience and determination against the former champions.

Assistant coach Jermaine Douglas claims their evolving approach emphasises the importance of aesthetics and mobility in their play.

"We're aiming to be more aesthetically pleasing on the eyes and play with more mobility," said Douglas. "The results we're seeing now are a direct outcome of the players truly believing in this style of play. It's not just about winning; it's about how we win."

Recruitment is attributed to some of the positive results, as Vere United have strengthened their squad by adding key players. Centre forward Kemar Beckford, signed from a club in El Salvador, brings experience and goal-scoring prowess.

Looking ahead, Vere United are not resting on their laurels as the coaching staff, including head coach Linval Dixon and Douglas, has their eyes on the upcoming January transfer window to bolster the squad further.

A particular focus will be to secure a central defensive player to add more steel and depth to their defensive line.

Douglas added that the partnership between himself and Dixon has been working well, with the Central High coach forming a great synergy with the former national defender.

"Our partnership has been excellent as we understand our role. We know our strengths and weaknesses and work together without issues," Douglas said.
