Coach Andrew Richardson contends that Jamaica Scorpions let the Combined Campuses and Colleges batters off the hook after the first day in their West Indies Championship second-round match at Sabina Park yesterday.

When stumps were drawn, the CCC had gotten to 260 for seven, with Jonathan Carter striking an unbeaten 108.

Asked to take the first strike, the College men were 122 for five at one stage, after which Carter took charge by hitting 12 fours in his 182-ball knock.

The left-hander got good support from Shamarh Brooks, who made 36, and Sion Hackett 30.

There were two wickets each for Gordon Bryan, Ojay Shields and Abhijai Mansingh.

Richardson lamented the indiscipline of his bowlers, which changed the game's situation after they sent CCC into bat.

"We were good in the first session, and we had them where we wanted them, but we were not patient and disciplined enough, and we let them back into the game when we should have pressed them a little harder," said Richardson.

DROP CATCH

The Scorpions nearly snared Carter's wicket just before he got his century, but seamer Gordon Bryan put down a return catch late in the afternoon.

Carter and Zishan Motara, who is on 28, will resume on today's second day, and Richardson is keen to make early inroads to wrap up the CCC innings and get Scorpions out in the middle with the bat.

"The first hour will be crucial, and we want to capitalise on that by picking up some early wickets. Having said that, we must be patient," added Richardson.

In other games, the Windward Islands Volcanoes were 123 without loss against the Barbados Pride, who posted 214 in their first innings in their encounter at Kensington Park. Jeremy Solozano is not out on 63, with captain Kimani Melius unbeaten on 52.

Earlier, seamer Ryan John bagged four wickets for 47 runs in restricting the Pride, with Kevin Wickham top-scoring with 74.

At Conaree in St Kitts, the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force were 128 for three, replying to 163 made by the West Indies Academy.

At Warner Park, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes will resume on 299 for six against the Guyana Harpy Eagles. Opener Mikyle Louis made 113, with Jahmar Hamilton getting 77.
