Old Harbour, Eagles stay perfect in JEP cricket

Last year's beaten finalists, Old Harbour and Victorian Eagles, maintained their perfect record in the Jamaica Energy Partners-sponsored St Catherine cricket league following wins over Basement and Paul Mountain, respectively on Sunday.

Batting first, Basement were dismissed for 121, with Romone Francis bagging five wickets for 44 runs and veteran seamer Lascelles Davis taking two for 13, despite 33 from Anthony McLean.

Francis then hit 53 from 82 balls to guide Old Harbour to 122 for seven, despite three wickets from former national player Rasheed Outar.

The win was Old Harbour's third from as many games, and they are joined at the top of Zone A on points by Correctional Services, who hammered Angels by 97 runs.

Kirk Brooks made 64 and Amoi Campbell, 59, in Correctional Services' total of 252, with Omar Townsend picking up three wickets for 16 runs.

Brenton Beckford then snared five wickets for 31 runs to restrict Angels to 155, despite 52 from Venrecce Griffith.

Over in Zone B, leaders Victorian Eagles also notched their third win in as many games after a 153-run victory over Paul Mountain. The Eagles first put up 196 for five in 30 overs, with youth player Brian Barnes scoring an unbeaten 104. Steven Taylor took three wickets for 10 runs, restricting Paul Mountain to a mere 43.

Elsewhere, defending champions Bridgeport moved into second place in the zone after they got by Greater Portmore by 219 runs.

Rushane Gordon was the star on the day after slamming 151. He got good support from national invitee Daniel Beckford, who made 108. Kern Duckett then bagged five wickets for 31 runs to restrict Greater Portmore to 129.
