Make an ‘Impressive’ start with 3-y-o debutant

START Saturday's Reggae 6 by banking American three-year-old debutant IMPRESSIVE FORCE in the opening event at five furlongs straight among average local-breds, non-winners of two races.

IMPRESSIVE FORCE has been catching birds at exercise in the company of stablemate and fellow American, TAURUS BOY, who runs later on the 10-race card among overnight allowance horses.

Since July 17, many-time champion trainer Philip Feanny has been using experienced TAURUS BOY to accompany IMPRESSIVE FORCE in the mornings.

In back-to-back Saturday workouts with TAURUS BOY, IMPRESSIVE FORCE first clocked 1:13.4 for six furlongs followed by a half-mile split of 47.0 from the gate last weekend, a sharpener for this week's debut out the straight chute.

Similar to last Saturday's advice re $180,000 claimers at four furlongs straight, their close relatives, $250,000 claimers, should be treated no different. Ignore form and press the 'all' button in the six-horse field for the second event.

However, EAGLE ONE, back in Jason DaCosta's barn by private treaty after being claimed by Saqlain Roman, gets the banker nod in the third at five furlongs straight, returning to the scene of the crime a month later, $550,000 claiming, this time without a claim tag.

WATERMAN JOHN was outstayed by a stronger DREAM WARRIOR at seven and a half furlongs on August 17. Clearly second-best, he should frank the form with a win at a mile in the fourth among older non-winners of two races.

However, WATERMAN JOHN qualifies as an exposed four-year-old, who would have had multiple opportunities to win a second race. Hence, the unknown, PAPA GRAY, a nine-length maiden winner at seven furlongs on his fifth start, must not be written off, having shown that he could be stronger going longer.

The seven-furlong Legal Light Trophy is a toss-up between off-the-lay-up GEOLITHIC and speedy EAZY PEAZY. Both have similar running styles with the determining factor being how sound will GEOLITHIC report as opposed to fit EAZY PEAZY, who made all at seven and a half furlongs in July to beat non-winners of three races, followed by two brave efforts up in class.

UNCAPTURED EMPRESS reads like a winner in the sixth at seven and a half furlongs after recovering from a poor start to chase home NATURAL DANCER at six furlongs last Saturday. However, the United States-bred filly has a tendency to throw in a clicker every other race. As such, use MR SENATOR as insurance to close those Reggae 6 bets.
