Los Perfectos ‘here to compete’, says head coach
Following his team's second win in as many games in the Jamaica Women's Premier League, Los Perfectos head coach Maurice Duncan signalled their intent to fight for the top spot.
"We're here to compete. It is one game at a time for us. We haven't reached that stage as yet to be thinking like that (on the title) but when the time comes, we'll see how far we can go," the head coach said.
Los Perfectos defeated Wifi United 2-0 on the weekend to sit second in the league standings, level on points with Frazsiers Whip who boast a better goal difference.
After their win, Duncan praised the team for their start to the season but stated there were areas the team will need to improve on.
"It is a good start to the season for us. Today was a much more competitive game for us compared to the last one. It was really hot when the game kicked off but it was a good game for us, however," he said.
"I see where we have to work on some areas when the team is under pressure but I'm comfortable with the scoreline and it is a good step for us going forward."
Los Perfectos have already seen the majority of their goals coming off the boot of under-20 Reggae Girl Andrene Smith.
Smith has already netted five times this season, scoring a hat-trick in their opening 6-1 win over Federal United.
Her attacking efforts will be supported by the defensive presence of the team's captain, and former Reggae Girl Sashana Campbell.
Duncan said while the two are expected to stand out this season, their success will come from an overall team effort.
"It is a team effort because we have a lot of outstanding players. We have Andrene Smith who played well and Sashana Campbell who is also a former Reggae Girl and we have some other players who would have also represented Jamaica as well," he explained.
"But at the end of the day, it is 11 players on the field so we play together as a team and we'll win as a team," he continued.
Los Perfectos' next game will see them facing off against defending champions Frazsiers Whip in match week three action.
