Jamaica College (JC) and Excelsior High would have both left the former's Ashenheim Stadium yesterday feeling they deserved a win after playing out an exciting 2-2 draw in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Manning Cup football competition.

A brace from JC's captain Dyllan John was matched by strikes from Excelsior's Kimarly Scott and Damarley Williams at the end of the Zone F encounter.

Davion Ferguson, JC's head coach said: "I'm proud of the performance that we put on. We came up against a very good Excelsior team. We reacted well in the second half and I think we should have won the game.

"They have the quality and they know what is at stake. As I've said, I think Excelsior is a very good team. They gave us a lot and I think we responded well," he added.

Excelsior started the better of the two and Shadeko Wizzard came close to finding the opener as he struck the crossbar twice in the first half.

A defensive mix-up for Excelsior, however, would allow John to score his first goal of the evening.

Caught off his line, Excelsior goalkeeper Jamari Gordon could only watch as John fired home into an open net.

Excelsior would respond immediately as Scott bulged the net with a strike from inside the penalty box.

The Eagles would pull ahead as Williams slotted the ball between the JC's goalkeeper's leg in the 57th minute.

Down but not out, JC salvaged the draw when they were awarded a penalty for a handled ball in the box, which John slotted with ease.

Keon Broderick, head coach of Excelsior High, said while disappointed, a point away to JC is a notable achievement.

"I'm a bit disappointed that we couldn't come out here with the three points but nonetheless, one point away from home is always good, especially a point at Jamaica College is definitely something to cheer about."

The result means JC stay atop the zone with seven points, while Excelsior sit third on four.
